Physical Education
At Buxted, we believe we have an essential role to play in supporting all children to develop healthy active lifestyles. This is achieved through regular physical activity throughout the school day, extra-curricular opportunities and dedicated PE lessons.
All children are encouraged to be the best they can be. In line with our school values, inspire and aspire, we encourage self-improvement for children to strive for their goals and embrace new skills. By the end of Year 6 we aspire to help children become confident sports people who are able to collaborate and work together in a team.
A variety of skills and sports are taught across the school. We use Get Set 4 Pe, a published scheme to ensure progression and development in sport and fitness from EYFS to Year 6. Each lesson plan has progressive activities that are designed to inspire and engage pupils and also provides ideas to both support and extend to enable all children to access the lesson.
Each week, all children have the recommended 2 hours of physical education. This is achieved through a combination of dance, gym, fitness and outdoor sports. Children in year 5 have swimming lessons delivered by trained swimming instructors at our local leisure centre. We also offer a range of afterschool clubs including Tennis, Football, Dance and Great Out Tours. We work closely alongside Uckfield college to provide further enrichment opportunities and to support the transition to secondary school.
In addition, we strive to provide as many opportunities as we can for all children to have a go at different sports. We also provide regular opportunities for all children to take part in inter-school and intra-school competitions at different levels. This year, we achieved the Gold Active Schools Games Mark. Within each lesson, the children are praised for their sporting achievements and contributions outside of school are celebrated in our weekly whole school assemblies.
